When Lightning Strikes Churches

The Christ Church of Cobble Hill on the corner of Kane and Clinton was struck by lightning Thursday, July 26, causing damage to a scaffolding, which struck and killed a 61-year-old pedestrian.  Stain glass windows were shattered and a large hole was left in the roof where the metal was burnt and twisted.  The church was originally constructed in the 1830s, but destroyed by a fire in 1935.  When it was rebuilt all that could be salvaged were six of the windows in the nave.
